Oaklyn Branch Library Winner of the American Institute of Architects 2003 Indiana Honor Award and 2004 GRHC North American Green Roofs of Excellence Award Roofmeadow® Type IV: Meadow 1 Irrigation: Base trickle irrigation Size: 18,000 square feet Client: Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Location: Evansville, IN Roofscapes Contractor: Enviroscape Architect: Veazy Parrott Durkin & Shoulders Associate Architect: Engberg Anderson Design Partnership Landscape Architect: Storrow Kinsella Assoc. General Contractor: Weddle Bros. Status: Completed fall 2002 Distinguishing Features: This award-winning project covers the new library with a native Mesic Prairie habitat. The overall depth of the Roofmeadow® Type IV: Meadow 1 assembly is 14 inches. The system is irrigated using the Optigrün base trickle irrigation system which introduces water at the base of the green roof profile. Water is retained in the vegetated cover through the use of 'roof riffle.' This is an extremely efficient method of irrigating the green roof and closely approximates natural conditions associated with shallow soil over shale bedrock. This project is also noteworthy in that it was the first time that Roofscapes, Inc. used pneumatic equipment to disperse the green roof media. The project is featured in the January 2004 issue of Library Journal. Read detailed description at press release for 2004 GRHC North American Green Roofs of Excellence Award.
