Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium Hospital Roofmeadow® Type II: Aromatic Garden Irrigation: None Size: 10,000 square feet Client: Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium Location: Tacoma, WA Roofscapes Contractor: Teufel Nurseries Architect: Boxwood Status: Completed in 2002 Distinguishing Features: A key challenge with this project was the load constraint; the maximum load could not exceed 15 pounds per square foot. For this project an un-irrigated Type II: Aromatic Garden Roofmeadow® assembly was selected. The vegetated cover is composed primarily of Sedum varieties established from plugs. To render the wooden deck compatible with EFVM leak detection methods, a grounding grid was installed below the primary waterproofing membrane. An unusual feature of this project is the use of tumbled blue glass cullet as a margin gravel.
