Fencing Academy of Philadelphia Roofmeadow® Type II: Aromatic Garden prototype Irrigation: None Size: 3,000 square feet Client: Fencing Academy of Philadelphia Location: Philadelphia, PA Roofscapes Contractor: Roofscapes, Inc. Landscape Design: David Ben Yaacov, RA Architect: David Ben Yaacov, RA Status: Completed spring 1998 Distinguishing Features This is a light-weight cover system that is intended for "retro-fit" installation on existing buildings. The maximum weight of the Type II: Aromatic Garden Roofmeadow® system, when fully saturated, is less than 15 pounds per square foot. It creates a meadow-like setting of perennial Sedum varieties that have been selected to withstand the range of seasonal conditions typical of temperate regions without then need for irrigation or regular maintenance. Its appearance changes with seasons. In the spring fescue grass and sedge, along with Allium, Burnet and Dianthus accent the cover. During summer and fall months flowering Sedum varieties dominate. After two and one-half years, this vegetated cover is in a mature stage of development. |
