Distinguishing Features

This small, but intricate award-winning roof landscape has been added to an existing terrace of the Museum. Over a length of about 150 feet, the vegetated cover progresses from a ‘pocket wetland’ through a meadow-like area, and finally to an ‘upland zone;’ complete with a tree. Except at the ‘upland’ area, where the media rises to a depth of 18 inches, the typical profile depth is less than 8 inches deep and weighs less than 45 pounds per square foot. The design incorporates Type III: Savannah and Type IV: Meadow 1 Roofmeadow® systems. A varied plant list adds interest to the landscape which can be viewed from the Museum’s ‘catwalk.’
