Heating and Cooling Load Analysis
The ability to model the energy transfer benefits associated with green roofs is improving rapidly. The energy effects of green roofs are complex and involve a mixture of insulating and thermal mass or heat absorption phenomena. New models that predict energy benefits rely on an understanding of the underlying physics and data being collected by the National Research Council (Canada), Penn State University, and elsewhere.
